Tassie gets 99 skiers on the one Boat!!

On only their second attempt at the World Record Tasmania  comes up with an amazing 99 skiers behind the one boat in the picturesque town of Strachan over the weekend. Organiser Greg Hind advised the AWWF that on the second attempt 120 skiers left the dock and an amazing 99 made it over the finish line. They may not have broken the record but the improvement from last year was significant and who knows maybe another go next year.  A photo of the Eagle with skiers on back in the record attempt.

Aussie Kiwi Challenge a great success

Well a record 54 skiers, athletes and support staff  took off to New Zealand over the weekend with the strongest Team for many years to take on the Kiwi's. The competition over 3 days had three Teams representing each country, the Under 14, Under 17 and Under 21 Divisions. Team Manager Tom Harward said all competitiors represented Australia both on and off the water at the highest level. The under 14 team kicked butt with the Under 21's just sneaking in with a win and unfortunatley the Under 17 went down to the Kiwi's. Some great results across all individuals with the highlight being the new Under 17 Australian Girls Jump record of 45.4 from the "Rabbit" Jacinta Carroll breaking Karina Nowlan's 43 and even Emma Sheers Under 18 record of 45.2.

Results are available on the documents > tournament > results 2009-10 season section of this web site.

Noel Dix and new Team to take Disabled forward
A successful Planning Workshop was held in Sydney on the 14th Nov with all those attending in agreement to work together to take the Disabled Division forward. A new Committee was appointed and I would like to thank all outgoing committee members for their valuable contribution over the past couple of years. In terms of numbers the Division is looking healthier than it has for a long time. The new committee structure is based on a small Executive with input from State Reps being sought on major items or at General Meetings. Minutes of the Meeting will be circulated when produced. Our emphasis will be on the conduct of Come and Try Events, development of those skiers who want to move to competitive skiing, and early preparation for the 2011 World Disabled Championships. These are likely to be held in either USA or Canada. Our aim is to take a maximum team of 14 with fund raising to commence well in advance. Potential team members will be asked to raise funds to cover their airfares and accommodation with other costs being met by the Division. The Team Sponsorship Brochure will also be updated as soon as possible.  Keep an eye on the disabled website at www.disabledwaterski.com.au  which we will try and keep updated with news and items of interest. My thanks to Scott Wintle who has agreed to continue as our webmaster.

Briant takes the Silver and Aussies finish strong 4th in Mexico.

A great result from the Aussie team at the Tournament Under 21 World Championships in Mexico.  Michale Braint picked up our only medal with a great effort in taking out second place in the Womens Trick event  just behind Whitney McClintock of Canada. Michale, with an interrupted preparation while changing Universities in the States tricked consistantly over the two days to take out the medal. A great effort.

The Team finished with a very crediable  fourth against  World Champions the USA.
