In February 1981, at the age of six, Stephen had his right leg amputated below the knee after a car knocked him off his bike. Stephen is a multiple Australian Titles and Records and attended 5 World Championships with a total of 11 Gold medals and 7 World Records. He skied in able bodied Australian Nationals winning two silver medals in 1997. Queen Elizabeth II instituted an Australian medal in 2000 recognizing Steve’s sporting achievements
